Modifications to Existing Facilities

We are experienced with all types of projects that involve existing buildings, including renovations, repairs, maintenance, and additions. Our engineers are skilled with the challenging aspects of modifying existing facilities. Our designs are informed by field surveys of the existing conditions, studies of the available existing documentation, and supplemented with the findings of testing or other investigations. Our work within the metropolitan Washington, DC area and at U.S. Department of State facilities worldwide has included many historic and/or monumental structures.

Physical Security

We have specialized experience with structural engineering evaluation and design for physical security elements, including active and passive vehicle barriers, anti-ram walls, and hardline walls and enclosures. Our engineers are trained and experienced with the design of structures to resist progressive collapse caused by accidental or intentional explosions. We are also experienced at collaborating with the project’s blast consultant to incorporate requirements for blast-resistant design.
